$10.8 million in Prizes to Be Won for Food Waste Reduction and Prevention
When Overeating During Covid-19 Is Still Not Enough!
The Food Waste Reduction Challenge is advertising Grand Prizes of $1.5 million to each of the most promising “ready for commercialization” solutions for:
- Food waste prevention, e.g. strengthening systems towards eliminating food waste generation (Stream A).
- food waste diversion, e.g. rerouting food surplus or waste to new channels (Steam B)
From the initial application (i.e. Phase 1) up to 30 applications will be selected and given $100,000 to demonstrate/pilot the success of their solutions with an implementation partner (e.g. farm, food processing facility, grocery retailer or restaurant) in Canada over an eight-month period (i.e. Phase 2).
Up to 12 applicants completing the demonstration/pilot (i.e. Phase 2) will be selected and given $400,000 to grow and scale up their solutions in Canada over a one-year period starting in Spring 2022 (Phase 3). And will be competing to be one of the Challenge’s two $1.5 million Grand Prize Winners.
Applications must be submitted no later than January 18, 2021 at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time.
