Funding for Increasing the Sale of Local Foods to Institutions
Clients Received Grant For I.T. Systems to Better Distribute Local Foods
The Broader Public Sector Grant Stream will contribute government funding of up to 50% to a maximum of $350,000 towards partnered activities that will increase the purchase and sale of Ontario agri-food products by public institutions. Program areas of focus include; supporting value-chain projects that increase marketplace access, encourage regional aggregation of agricultural products, augment the development of further processed products made with local ingredients, and/or assist distributors in listing and supplying Ontario foods to public sector institutions. Funding will cover expenses incurred for market research, promotional materials, project marketing and management, as well as, essential equipment purchases (e.g. freezers, packaging, labellers) to specifically address barriers in accessing the public sector marketplace. Direct income support, capital investments, basic research or debt financing expenses are not eligible for funding. Partnerships must include at least one provincial private sector food business and one public sector institutions e.g. school, government facility, hospital, etc. It is expected that most contributions will be between $100,000 and $200,000.
